WELCOME
The DAISY FAMILY FOUNDATION, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was established in 2025 by the children of Daisy Hanphung, who died from complications of uterine cancer at the age of 71. In her memory, we want to provide scholarships to extraordinary medical students for the compassionate contributions they make every day going above and beyond expectations in science and sensitivity.
Why We Started the Daisy Family Foundation (Healthcare + Equity)

Building A Healthier Tomorrow
Across California and the nation, communities are already feeling the strain of physician shortages, rising education costs, and barriers to care. These challenges are real—but they also present an opportunity. By supporting the next generation of medical professionals, we can transform today’s obstacles into tomorrow’s healing.
About 38% of California residents (~15 million people) live in areas with a shortage of primary care providers. There are 25% of doctors who are 65+ with looming retirements.
Primary Care Shortage
Education & Debt

In California, 75% of medical students graduate with debt, averaging around $170,000 in loans.
Diversity with Medical Professionals
Studies have found that minority patients who have racial and ethnic concordance with their provider are more likely to use needed health services, are less likely to postpone or delay seeking care, and report greater satisfaction and better patient-provider communication.
